Saturday morning at the marina, coffee in one hand and a tape measure in the other. The kids want a slide this summer, and the first question is the one everybody asks: what size slide for my boat? It’s a fair question, and it has a better answer than “the big one.” A slide that suits your boat starts at the right height, attaches to something strong and lands riders in water deep enough to be safe. This hub collects everything we know about fit and sizing, from pontoons and dock slides to yachts with 30 ft (9 m) drops.

In short: size a slide by the height it starts from, not by the length of your boat. Pontoon slides are sold as one size for “most pontoons” with a 200 lb rider limit, while yacht slides are chosen by the rail-to-waterline drop measured with the boat loaded. Then check the attachment points and the water depth the maker asks for, which is 5 ft for the RAVE pontoon slide.
What size slide for my boat? Start with the height
Every boat slide is built for a starting height. On a pontoon, that’s the deck and rail where the ladder end of the slide sits. On a yacht, it’s the rail or deck the slide hangs from, measured down to the water. Yacht makers size everything from that one number: FunAir says the right size “depends on your rail-to-waterline drop and your yacht’s deck layout,” and Yachtbeach dealers list each model by the railing height it fits.
Here’s how the published sizes line up. These are makers’ and dealers’ own ranges, and none of them is a promise that a slide fits your particular boat.
| Boat | How it’s sized | Published examples |
|---|---|---|
| Pontoon | One size “fits most pontoons”; rider limit | RAVE 10 ft long, 68 in high; Airhead Spillway 10.5 ft long, 4.5 ft high; all 200 lb per rider |
| Dock | Dock height above the water | RAVE Dock Slide: 9 ft slide, 200 lb (now discontinued) |
| Small yacht, up to 20 m (66 ft) | Rail-to-waterline drop | FunAir FunSize: 1.5 m (about 5 ft) |
| Yacht up to 30 m (98 ft) | Rail-to-waterline drop | FunAir Hanger Mini: 2 to 3.5 m (6.6 to 11.5 ft); Yachtbeach 4.6: railing 270 to 350 cm |
| Yacht 30 to 50 m (98 to 164 ft) | Rail-to-waterline drop | FunAir Hanger: 4 to 6.5 m (13 to 21 ft) |
| Yacht over 50 m (164 ft) | Drop plus deck layout; often custom | FunAir Hanger Extreme: 7 to 9.5 m; Riser and Self-Lifting: over 9.5 to 10 m |
The three guides in this section
How to measure rail-to-waterline walks through the one measurement that decides a yacht slide’s size: where to measure from, why you measure the boat loaded and not empty at the dock, and how the FunAir and Yachtbeach size bands line up with your number. It also covers what happens when your drop falls between two published ranges.
Will a slide fit my boat? is the compatibility check. For pontoons, it’s about rider limits, strap points and whether your rail is a structural part of the boat or just a handrail. For yachts, it’s about rail clearance (FunAir slides sit 10 to 15 cm above the rails), rigging points and deck space. For docks, it’s about the dock height and what’s under the water.
Water depth and clearance covers the landing zone: how deep the water has to be (RAVE asks for a minimum of 5 ft for its pontoon slide), how much open space you need off the end, and what to check before the first rider goes.

Pontoon slides you can buy today
Both of these are sold for pontoon boats and both carry a 200 lb rider limit from the maker. The RAVE comes with a 12V inflator that runs off the boat’s battery; the Spillway doesn’t include a pump, so plan on one. Prices were about $320 for the RAVE and about $605 for the Spillway, seen on Amazon in October 2026.
RAVE Sports Pontoon Slide

- Maker: at least 5 ft of water
Airhead Spillway Pontoon Slide
- 8 ft sliding surface

What makers don’t publish
Two numbers people often look for simply aren’t out there. No boat slide maker we checked (FunAir, Yachtbeach, RAVE, Airhead) publishes a wind limit, and none publishes a minimum age. We won’t invent one. What makers do publish is a rider limit, a water depth on some models, and setup times. For conditions, charter broker Fraser describes slides going out “when your yacht anchors in calm, protected waters,” with the captain judging conditions and crew supervising, which is a sensible rule for any boat.
Fit and sizing questions
Does boat length tell me the slide size?
Only loosely. FunAir quotes yacht lengths next to each model (FunSize up to 20 m, Hanger Mini up to 30 m), but its sizing is done from the rail-to-waterline drop and the deck layout. Two yachts of the same length can need different slides.
Is there one pontoon slide that fits every pontoon?
Makers say “fits most pontoon boats” (Airhead) or “designed to attach easily to pontoon boats” (RAVE), not “all.” Check where the straps will go on your boat and whether those points are structural before you buy.
What’s the weight limit on a boat slide?
For the pontoon slides we list, 200 lb per rider, one rider at a time. Yacht slide makers generally don’t publish a rider limit on their product pages; ask the maker for yours.
Can I get help sizing a yacht slide?
Yes. FunAir’s engineers size from your General Arrangement drawings or simple measurements, and dealers do the same for Yachtbeach. You can also send us your measurements through Request more information.
Once it fits, keep it working: our setup and safety guides, boat slide safety tips and the slide glossary are good next stops.
