Every summer the same questions come up on the dock: Will it fit? How deep does the water need to be? Can Dad go down it too? What does a yacht slide cost? This boat slide FAQ collects the questions buyers really ask, with short answers drawn from makers, dealers, charter brokers and the US Coast Guard. Where nobody publishes an answer, we say so.
In short: pontoon slides are one size for most pontoons, rated 200 lb per rider, and cost about $320 to $605 for the models we track; yacht slides are sized by rail-to-waterline drop and sold by quote. Use any slide at anchor, engine off, in water at least as deep as the maker states. No maker publishes a wind limit or a minimum age.
Sizing
What size slide do I need for my boat?
It depends on the height the slide starts from. Pontoon slides are one size for “most pontoons.” Yacht slides are chosen by the rail-to-waterline drop. See Fit & Sizing.
How do I measure for a yacht slide?
Measure from the top of the rail at the launch point straight down to the water, with the yacht loaded as you normally use it. Step by step: how to measure rail-to-waterline.
What are the standard yacht slide sizes?
FunAir’s bands run from 1.5 m (FunSize) through 2 to 3.5 m (Hanger Mini), 4 to 6.5 m (Hanger) and 7 to 9.5 m (Hanger Extreme) to custom slides over 10 m. Yachtbeach lists railings from 270 to 620 cm across four models.
Will a slide fit my boat if it isn’t a pontoon?
Pontoon slides are designed for pontoons. For other boats, see the best inflatable boat slides and will a slide fit my boat?
How much storage space does a slide need?
Pontoon slides roll up small; RAVE says its slide rolls “like a sleeping bag” to fit under a seat. The Yachtbeach 4.6 packs to 96 x 61 x 35 cm in its bag.

What’s the weight limit on a pontoon slide?
200 lb per rider on every pontoon slide we track (RAVE, Airhead, WOW, O’Brien, Aquaglide), one rider at a time.
How does a pontoon slide attach?
With straps, to the pontoon’s sides. Use the points in your slide’s instructions and the boat’s structure, not a light handrail.
Is a pump included?
With the RAVE, yes (a 12V inflator). With the Airhead Spillway, no; you’ll need a 12V pump with a Halkey Roberts adapter.
Do I need an upper deck for a pontoon slide?
Not for an inflatable one. Fixed fiberglass slides need an upper deck and come as a factory option, such as Bennington’s Top Deck. See pontoons with slides.
Inflatable or fiberglass?
Inflatable slides fit a boat you already own and pack away. Fiberglass slides are part of a double-decker pontoon or houseboat and give a higher ride. We found no aftermarket rigid slide kit for boats.
Yacht slides
Will a yacht slide damage my handrails?
FunAir says its slides “sit 10–15 cm above the rails, ensuring there is no direct contact, stress, or pressure on them,” held by anchor points and rigging planned at design.
How many crew does it take and how long?
FunAir: 1 to 2 crew and under 15 minutes for the FunSize and Hanger Mini; about 20 minutes for the Hanger; about 60 minutes for the custom Riser. Yachtbeach’s 6.2 and 7.2 need 2 crew.
QuickShip or custom: what’s the lead time?
FunAir says QuickShip slides “can be shipped within days” and quotes a standard 35 days for custom inflatables.
Can I put my yacht’s name on the slide?
Yes. FunAir and FreeStyle both offer custom colours and logos.
Which charter yachts have waterslides?
Fraser and Northrop & Johnson both list them; N&J had 33 when we checked. See charter yachts with waterslides.
Safety
How deep does the water need to be?
RAVE states a minimum of 5 ft for its pontoon slide. A review site gives 8 ft for the Aquaglide Freefall. Use your slide’s figure; see water depth and clearance.
Is there a minimum age for boat slides?
No maker publishes one. Adult supervision, a fitted life jacket and good swimming are the working rule.
Is there a wind limit?
No maker publishes one. Charter crews put slides up only at anchor in calm, protected water, which is a good rule for everyone.
Does the engine have to be off?
Yes. The US Coast Guard warns never to sit or hang on the back deck or swim platform while engines are running, because of carbon monoxide; keep riders away from the stern and props.
Can two people slide at once?
Not on pontoon slides: they’re rated for one rider at a time, up to 200 lb.
Care
How do I store a boat slide?
Clean, dry and deflated, rolled loosely, out of the sun. See boat slide maintenance tips.
My pump doesn’t fit the valve. What now?
Many pontoon slides use a Halkey Roberts-type high-pressure valve. Get a pump with that adapter; the Airhead 12V pump below includes one.
Can I repair a leak myself?
Check your manual and warranty first. RAVE has published a video on replacing a Halkey Roberts valve. We found no slide-specific repair kit from the yacht slide makers; ask yours.
What warranty do slides have?
RAVE gives 1 year on its pontoon slide; FunAir gives a 5-year limited warranty on its yacht slides.
