Out past the end of the dock, anchored in deep water, a slide sits on the lake on its own. Kids swim out to it, haul themselves up the steps, and shoot down the other side with a yell, then paddle back around for another go. Nobody has to stand on a dock or a boat deck, and the landing zone is open water in every direction. That’s a floating water slide: a slide that floats and is anchored, rather than strapped to something. This guide explains the kinds you can buy, from family lake slides to freestanding yacht slides and commercial lake parks, what they need in depth and anchoring, and what they cost.

In short: a floating water slide stands on its own inflatable base in the water and is held in place by anchors. Family models such as Aquaglide’s Freefall 6 hold several riders and need around 6 ft of water; attachment slides bolt onto a water trampoline; freestanding yacht slides like FunAir’s Apex Extreme are 5 m tall and quote-only. Anchors, lines and pumps are often extra.

Floating water slide vs a slide on a dock or boat

A slide on a dock or a pontoon uses that structure for height and support. A floating slide carries its own height on an inflatable base, so you can put it where the water is deepest and clearest instead of where your dock happens to be. The trade-offs are size, anchoring and a swim to get on. If you’d rather strap a slide to your dock, see inflatable dock slides; for pontoons, slides for pontoon boats.

The Aquaglide Freefall 6 is the classic family floating slide: a zero-entry slide 13 ft 4 in long, 8 ft wide and 6 ft high, made of 28 oz Duratex and rated by Aquaglide for 3 adults and 3 children, 600 lb in total. Aquaglide asks for at least 6 ft of water, placement 10 ft from shore, and anchors totaling at least 1,100 lb; anchors, lines and the pump are not included. We saw it at about $2,786 on Amazon on October 9, 2026.

WOW’s Slide N Smile is a much smaller two-lane slide (108 x 84 x 50 in) that floats and ties to a dock or pool wall, with a 2-year warranty. WOW doesn’t state a rider limit on its page, so treat it as a kids’ slide. About $275.

Already own a water trampoline? An attachment slide turns it into a mini park. RAVE’s Aqua Slide straps to its Aqua Jump and Bongo trampolines and needs 10 ft of water; Aquaglide’s Plunge fits trampolines with 35 to 40 in tubes and needs 8 ft. Our sister site compares the trampolines themselves in the best water trampolines.

For a real height thrill, Aquaglide’s Velocity 10.0 has a ladder-style climbing wall up to a 10 ft launch point, an interior mesh floor for resting, Duratex with triple-layer seams, and connects to other Aquaglide park pieces on three sides. Aquaglide lists it at $5,039.99; the boarding platform is sold separately. Overton’s lists it at 20.8 x 9 x 9.58 ft, about 249 lb, with a 4-person capacity.

Floating slide on its own, or a slide on a trampoline?

If you’re starting from nothing, the choice is between a stand-alone floating slide and a water trampoline plus a slide attachment. Here’s how they compare on the published figures:

  • Cost: the Freefall 6 was about $2,786 on its own. An attachment slide alone is about $950 to $980, and you need the trampoline as well.
  • Depth: the Freefall 6 asks for 6 ft. The attachment slides ask for more: 8 ft (Plunge) and 10 ft (RAVE Aqua Slide).
  • Riders: the Freefall 6 is rated for six people at once (3 adults, 3 children). With a trampoline, kids bounce and slide, which spreads the crowd out.
  • Growing it later: both routes connect to more pieces from the same maker, so pick a brand whose other pieces you like.

Freestanding slides for yachts

On superyachts, a floating slide solves a problem: what if there’s no good spot to hang a slide over the rail? FunAir’s Apex Extreme is freestanding. FunAir gives it as 5 m tall with a 9.3 x 5.92 m footprint, inflated in around 30 minutes by four crew, with reinforced plates for anchoring and for craning it into position. It can be anchored in a calm bay or positioned off the stern, with FunAir’s SeaStairs for climbing up from the water. It’s quote-only: use Request more information and we’ll pass your details on. For over-the-rail slides, see superyacht slides.

Lake-park slides for resorts and camps

Public lakes, resorts and camps use modular inflatable parks where slides are one piece among climbing walls, jumps and walkways. Aquaglide sells a modular commercial aquapark range, and a 2014 report described Aquaglide parks at Australian resorts. Wibit builds modular lake parks: retailer listings show its slide module at 1.1 m (3 ft 7 in) high with a 1.5 m minimum water depth, and its ROCK module, with three integrated slides, at 3.1 m (10 ft 2 in). These are commercial products with their own operating rules, chosen with the maker. We list them for information only; for a project, use Request more information.

Anchoring and depth for a floating water slide

  • Depth first. Use the maker’s minimum: 6 ft for the Freefall 6, 8 ft for the Plunge, 10 ft for the RAVE Aqua Slide. Check at the lowest water of the season. More in water depth and clearance.
  • Anchor to the maker’s spec. Aquaglide states a minimum of 1,100 lb of total anchor weight for the Freefall 6. Don’t guess; ask the maker if it isn’t on the page.
  • Distance from shore and docks. Aquaglide asks for 10 ft from shore. Keep it well clear of docks, swim ladders and boat lanes.
  • Budget for the extras. Anchors, lines and pumps are often sold separately.

Safety on a floating slide

Riders swim to a floating slide, so they need to be confident swimmers or wear a life jacket. One rider at a time down each lane, feet first, and an adult watching from the shore or a boat. No slide maker we checked publishes a wind limit, so bring riders in when the wind builds and check the anchors after storms. Read slide safety tips and browse every piece in floating slides.

Floating water slide questions

How deep does the water need to be for a floating slide?

It depends on the slide: Aquaglide asks for 6 ft under the Freefall 6 and 8 ft under the Plunge; RAVE asks for 10 ft under its Aqua Slide. Wibit’s slide module is listed with a 1.5 m minimum.

Can I leave a floating water slide out all summer?

Family floating slides like the Freefall 6 are designed to stay anchored, but check anchors, lines and pressure often, and follow the maker’s storm and storage advice.

How many people can use a floating slide?

Only what the maker states. Aquaglide rates the Freefall 6 for 3 adults and 3 children, 600 lb; Overton’s lists the Velocity 10.0 for 4 people.

Can a yacht use a floating slide?

Yes. FunAir’s Apex Extreme is freestanding and can be anchored in a calm bay or off the stern. Many yachts use over-the-rail slides instead: see our marine slides guide.

Do floating slides come with anchors and a pump?

Often not. Aquaglide says anchors, lines and the pump are not included with the Freefall 6, and the Velocity 10.0’s boarding platform is sold separately. Check the box list and budget for them.

Is a floating slide the same as a water park?

A water park is several connected pieces; a slide can be one of them. The Velocity 10.0 and Freefall 6 can stand alone or link to other Aquaglide pieces.
